About The Club

Originating as a dynamic force within the volleyball scene, Killer Instinct Volleyball emerged initially as a brand ambassador, introducing a competitive edge that resonated with both children and adults alike. The brand quickly became a symbol of pride, adorning the uniforms of numerous volleyball clubs and high schools. Founder Dane Clarke, deeply entrenched in the volleyball world from a young age, exemplified the Killer Instinct mindset on the court, setting the stage for a legacy. After two decades, fate intervened as Dane reunited with high school friend Scott Manduck in 2019. With both individuals passionately coaching in their respective spheres, the synergy was palpable. The rebirth of Killer Instinct commenced, rekindling its impact on the volleyball community and extending its reach to nurture young athletes citywide. From beach and grass court camps to indoor programs, Killer Instinct’s commitment to imparting both love and technical proficiency in the game has been unwavering. Collaborating with adult and high-level rep players as coaches in house league play, Killer Instinct has become a beacon of support for children in Durham and its surrounding areas.

Mission Statement: At Killer Instinct Academy, we strive to instill a passion for volleyball within our community’s youth, fostering a mindset of dedication, sportsmanship, and technical excellence. Through comprehensive programs and a commitment to mentorship, we aim to empower young athletes, providing them with the skills and confidence to succeed both on and off the court.

Dane Clarke

WHo IS DANE CLARKE

–COACH DANE–

Coach Dane has over 25 years of coaching experience in all age categories and abilities throughout the development pathway and is classified as a Trained Development Coach.

Coach Dane entered the Club volleyball scene in 2017 in Durham to lead the rebuild of a 17U Girls Division 3 team that went on to win a D1 gold medal at the OVA Provincial Championships In 2018. The following year saw a return of the core members of his squad along with a few key additions to make up the Rebels 18u Elite. Not only did they win another top tier provincial D1 crown, but also went on to earn another Gold, this time at the Volleyball Canada National Championships held in Toronto in 2019 to cap off their senior year.

Coach Dane supported and celebrated his athletes accomplishments including US scholarships, Canadian University varsity volleyball team offers as well as others pursuing academic excellence.

A former College varsity player, Coach Dane continues to play competitively in addition to serving for the past 10 years on the executive of the Scarborough Men’s Volleyball Association. Finally, to round out Coach Danes volleyball acumen, he is also a Volleyball Canada carded official for over 30years.

He brings a true love and respect for the game combined with a diverse range of volleyball IQ to share with athletes. His passion for personal and volleyball growth is contagious.

Scott Manduck

Coach Scott throughout his extensive tenure, Scott has exhibited unparalleled leadership and organizational skills that have become synonymous with his coaching prowess over the years.

Having successfully managed his own business for the past two decades, Coach Scott brings a wealth of experience to the development of our aspiring athletes, preparing them not just for sporting success but also for success in their future endeavors. His leadership style is characterized by strength and guidance, fostering an environment that allows the young athletes to showcase their talents.

Despite the passage of time, Coach Scott maintains an active presence on the volleyball and basketball courts, demonstrating an enduring passion for the sports. This ongoing engagement as a player infuses his coaching style with a genuine and relentless competitive drive, especially evident when imparting skills and drills to his athletes.

Coach Scott’s dedication to the game extends beyond the tangible; it reflects a profound love and respect for the sports. His coaching approach is enriched by a diverse volleyball IQ, a product of years spent immersed in the game. What sets him apart is not only his technical knowledge but also his infectious passion for personal and volleyball growth—a quality that resonates with everyone fortunate enough to be in his sphere.
